Program of Studies Presentation - January 8, 2024

An Invitation:  Program of Studies Orientation

Dear Parents and Guardians of Easton and Redding Eighth Grade Students:

The annual Joel Barlow High School Orientation Evening for our Program of Studies will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  The inclement weather/snow date, if needed, is scheduled for Wednesday, January 10, 2024.  The orientation will focus on describing course offerings, graduation requirements, and the course selection process for the 2024-2025 school year.  New this year, we will provide student-led tours of our elective offerings and the Academic Centers from 6:00 p.m. until 6:45 p.m.  The tours will begin outside the auditorium in the lobby.  This evening is most useful for parents and guardians of incoming ninth graders or new students but may also benefit those seeking clarification of options.

The presentation will take place in our auditorium.  After a brief introduction, each department chairperson will provide orientation information specific to their disciplines.  There will be time set aside to answer questions.

The Program of Studies describes Barlow’s required and elective courses and can be accessed by this link.

After attending the orientation and reviewing the Program of Studies, you and your child will have access to PowerSchool to look at course options and make preliminary selections. These dates will be shared via a separate email announcement. Instructions on how to enter course requests can be accessed here. During the month of January, school counselors at the middle schools will explain the Program of Studies to 8th grade students. High school counselors will meet with the 8th graders at the end of January, and beginning of February to help students choose their courses of study for next year.

If you have any questions after the orientation about courses or the registration process, please feel free to call either your child’s middle school counselor or any high school counselor.

We look forward to seeing you on January 8, 2024.
