An Invitation: Program of Studies Orientation
Dear Parents and Guardians of Joel Barlow Students:
The annual Joel Barlow High School Orientation Evening for our Program of Studies will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The inclement weather/snow date, if needed, is scheduled for Wednesday, January 10, 2024. The orientation will focus on describing course offerings, graduation requirements, and the course selection process for the 2024-2025 school year. This evening is most useful for parents and guardians of incoming ninth graders or new students but may also benefit those seeking clarification of options.
The presentation will take place in the auditorium. After a brief introduction, each department chairperson will provide orientation information specific to their disciplines. Time will be set aside to answer questions.

In late December school counselors will receive student-placement recommendations for the 2024-2025 school year from teachers in all disciplines. Beginning on December 29, 2023 until January 7, 2024 parents/guardians and students should access PowerSchool, look at course options, and make preliminary selections. Instructions on how to enter course requests can be accessed here. The deadline for families to select courses at home is January 7, 2024. During the month of January, our school counselors will be scheduling individual meetings with their students in order to complete their course selections. Parents and guardians are invited to attend these meetings. Indeed, we encourage your participation. If you would like to be included in your child’s conference, please call your child’s school counselor to arrange a convenient time.
