Student Success Plan

The Connecticut General Assembly has directed that all students beginning in grade six should have a Student Success Plan, an electronic portfolio that addresses a student’s needs and interests, helps each student to stay connected in school, assists in achieving postsecondary educational and career goals, and provides support in setting goals for social, emotional, physical and academic growth. Each plan builds upon a student’s academic development, career development, and personal/social development.

At Joel Barlow, every student’s Success Plan is coordinated by school counselors and contains entries from the comprehensive school counseling program, the advisory program, academic areas, Career Pathways, the Career Center, and most importantly, the students themselves.

Success Plans are reviewed and revised throughout a four-year program, to evaluate updated goals, progress on meeting school-wide expectations, academic success, and career and educational plans. For information about an individual plan, please contact a school counselor in the Counseling office.
