JBHS Open House - Thursday, 9/18/25
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Grade 9-12 Family Members:
The faculty and staff of Joel Barlow High School look forward to seeing you at our Open House on September 18. We are eager to share our course goals and learning expectations with you.
The evening will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. in your child’s first period classroom as there is no formal opening ceremony. We will run through all eight periods of our schedule. In addition to meeting with your child’s classroom teachers, you will have the opportunity to meet with our school counselors, social workers, and school psychologists. Members of administration will be in the main lobby for most of the evening.
A blank copy of the evening's schedule is linked here. Please have your student fill this out with you. You can also print out your student’s schedule directly from PowerSchool. Please plan accordingly and have a copy of your student's schedule with room numbers handy. Refreshments will be provided by the PTO. We urge you to join the PTO. Your PTO membership goes a long way to directly impact your children and Barlow. Here is the link to join.
As we have done in the past because Open House is such a well-attended event, the Redding Police will close the main entrance at Black Rock Turnpike (Rt. 58). Police will be stationed there to redirect traffic to Meeker Hill and Turney Road. Do not attempt to park on the grass areas along Barlow Drive as the curbing will damage your vehicles. We urge you to please carpool if you can as parking at Barlow is limited. At the end of the evening, parents will be able to use Barlow Drive to exit via the main entrance onto Route 58. Please try to arrive far enough in advance of 7:00 p.m. to park your car and get into the building. Staff will be on hand to direct you. In order to avoid additional delay, kindly follow their directions.
Open House is your opportunity to experience our community and learn about the curricula at Joel Barlow. Due to the limited time for each period, the teachers will not be able to speak about individual students, but they will have sign-up sheets for those who would like a follow-up conversation.
We look forward to seeing you on September 18!
Sincerely,

Mario J. Almeida, Ed.D.
Assistant Superintendent, Head of School
