Career Pathways

Career Pathways

The Career Pathways program outlines a typical career sequence for students from Grades 9 through 12, beginning in the freshman year with attendance at the Career Fair and career-related presentations at Palooza, followed by a written reflection. As sophomores, students are encouraged to engage in at least two job-shadowing experiences. Juniors should pursue either an extended job shadow, an internship or an extended community service commitment. Seniors can elect one of the several Passages options, many of which involve intensive exploration of an abiding interest, a project, and a public performance.

Students who are interested in an intensive pursuit of the Career Pathways sequence may satisfy the career component of the Diploma with Distinction, thereby achieving one of the four criteria required for that honor.

The Career Pathways program is under the supervision of the transition coordinator, and is maintained through the Joel Barlow Career Center. The program was designed and is overseen by a committee of faculty members and volunteers, who also organize the annual Career Fair. Activities connected with the program support each student's Success Plan, an electronic record of individual academic, career, and personal/social goals.
