Three Virtuous and Talented Empresses of Minority Groups in Chinese History Grade Level:  
Women played significant roles in the history of China. This article features three of these important historical figures. The third woman, Borjigit, Empress of Huang Taiji, was the mother of Shunzhi. He was called Emperor Shunzhi (1644-1661), and thus Borjigit became the empress, called Xiaozhuang. See an image of Jorjigit and read about her life and influence as the mother of the emperor. Another of her sons also took the throne upon the death of Shunzhi, so Borjigit was called "Empress of Prospering the Country in Two Dynasties".
