A movement known as the Yellow Hat sect reformed Tibetan Buddhism and spread to Mongolia. A Mongolian prince bestowed power on the Dalai Lama, who was considered to be the divine reincarnation of the ancestor of the Tibetan people. The Dalai Lama maintains earthly power while the Panchen Lama maintains spiritual power over the Tibetan theocracy. When one ruler dies, he is believed to be reincarnated in an infant boy. The First Bhikhuni Ordination in Australia Grade Level:  
The controversy over female ordination is common to both Christianity and Buddhism. Buddha's reluctance to ordain women left a lasting impression of Buddhist leaders, in spite of his eventually granting women ordination. While some Buddhist countries discontinued female ordination, others never established it. Women's efforts today to revive the tradition have been met with resistance. Female practitioners and teachers have been few, and Tibetans have traveled to other countries to be ordained. Kashmir, an important center for learning, has a rich cultural, historical, and literary background. Kashmir Shaivism contributed the Pratyabhijnya system to Indian philosophy. Kashmir also has a long history of Buddhism, and has produces great scholars and literature. Kashmiri poetry begins in the 14th century with Lalleshwari.
